Richard Smallwood is an American gospel music artist, songwriter, and producer. He is best known for his work with the Richard Smallwood Singers, a gospel group he founded in 1977. He has released several albums, including Portrait, Textures, and Persuaded: Live in DC. He has won numerous awards, including four Grammy Awards, two Stellar Awards, and two Dove Awards. He has also been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Smallwood was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 30, 1948. He began playing the piano at the age of four and was soon playing in church. He attended Howard University, where he studied music and composition. After graduating, he formed the Richard Smallwood Singers and released their debut album, Portrait, in 1980. Smallwood has released several albums since then, including Textures, Persuaded: Live in DC, and Anthology. He has also written and produced music for other artists, including CeCe Winans, Yolanda Adams, and Donnie McClurkin. Smallwood has won numerous awards, including four Grammy Awards, two Stellar Awards, and two Dove Awards. He has also been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. In addition, he has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Smallwood is currently 73 years old.
