Maggie Cheung and Tony Chiu-Wai Leung were called the Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart of Chinese cinema by the Straits Times of Singapore on January 22, 2003. They said that they could not ever be lovers because of personality differences.

He and Andy Lau made 7 movies together: Days of Being Wild (1990), Hei yi bu zhi Shou du qing shen (1992), Ho moon yeh yin (1991), Ng foo jeung: Guet lip (1991), Infernal Affairs (2002), Mou gaan dou III: Jung gik mou gaan (2003), and Chung Wan ying hung (1991).
