Piqueras began his career in journalism in 1976, working for the newspaper El País. He then moved to the Spanish public broadcaster TVE, where he worked as a reporter and news anchor for various programs. In 1988, he became the anchor of the news program Telediario 2, a position he held until 1997. In 1997, Piqueras moved to the private broadcaster Antena 3, where he became the anchor of the news program Espejo Público. He has been the anchor of the program ever since. Piqueras has won numerous awards for his work, including the National Journalism Award in 2006 and the Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts in 2011. On January 25, 2006 Telecinco confirms that Piqueras was named news director of the private channel and news anchor of the 21:00 Edition. Since 2013 the news program its leader of ratings on Spain's evening news
