Margaret J. Geller is an American astrophysicist and cosmologist. She is a professor of astronomy at Harvard University and a senior scientist at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. She is best known for her work on the large-scale structure of the universe, which she has studied using the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. Geller was born in Ithaca, New York, and received her B.A. in physics from Cornell University in 1969. She then went on to receive her Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of California, Berkeley in 1975. Geller has received numerous awards and honors for her work, including the Gruber Prize in Cosmology, the National Medal of Science, and the Crafoord Prize. She is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Philosophical Society.
