He attended the University of Oklahoma, where he played college football for the Sooners. Wilkerson was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played for the Buccaneers from 2003 to 2007, and then for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2008 to 2010. He was a member of the Buccaneers' Super Bowl XXXVII championship team. Wilkerson was a defensive end and outside linebacker in the NFL. He was known for his pass-rushing ability, and he recorded a career-high 8.5 sacks in 2007. Wilkerson moved into the starting lineup in 2009, starting all 15 games in which he played for the Buccaneers that season.
