William Atherton is an American actor, producer, and soundtrack artist. He is best known for his roles in the films Ghostbusters (1984), Die Hard (1988), and The Last Samurai (2003). He has also appeared in numerous television shows, including The X-Files, Law & Order, and The Practice. Atherton was born in Orange, Connecticut, and attended Yale University, where he studied drama. After graduating, he moved to New York City and began his acting career. He made his Broadway debut in 1971 in the play "The Great God Brown". Atherton has appeared in over 50 films and television shows. He has been nominated for two Golden Globe Awards and two Emmy Awards. He has also won a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Die Hard. Atherton is married to actress Gretchen Corbett, and they have two children. He currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
