William Asher was an American television and film director, producer, and screenwriter. He was best known for his work on the television series I Love Lucy, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Bewitched, and The Patty Duke Show. He was also the director of the Beach Party film series. Asher was born in Manhattan, New York City, on August 8, 1921. He began his career in the 1940s as a radio writer and director. He then moved to television, where he wrote and directed for shows such as I Love Lucy, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and The Patty Duke Show. Asher also directed several feature films, including Beach Party (1963), Muscle Beach Party (1964), Bikini Beach (1964), and Pajama Party (1964). He also directed the television movie The Girl Most Likely To... (1973). Asher was married four times, including to actresses Elizabeth Montgomery and Joyce Bulifant. He died on July 16, 2012, at the age of 90.
