He is also a senior advisor to the Blackstone Group, a private equity firm. Berman was born in Rochester, New York, and graduated from the University of Rochester in 1978. He began his career in the Reagan White House, where he served as the Deputy Assistant to the President for Political Affairs. He then served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Legislative Affairs. Berman has been a major fundraiser for the Republican Party, and has served as a senior advisor to the presidential campaigns of George W. Bush, John McCain, and Mitt Romney. He is a member of the Republican National Committee and the Republican Governors Association. Berman is married to Lea Berman, a former White House Social Secretary. They have two children.
