Perez attended California State University, Northridge, where he earned a degree in broadcast journalism. He began his career in broadcasting in 2004, working as a reporter and anchor for KGET-TV in Bakersfield, California. He then moved to KERO-TV in Bakersfield, where he worked as a reporter and anchor for two years. In 2007, Perez joined ABC 7 Eyewitness News in Los Angeles as a reporter and anchor. He has since become a mainstay of the station, covering a wide range of stories from breaking news to feature stories. Perez has won numerous awards for his work, including an Emmy Award for his coverage of the 2008 presidential election.
