Ted Brown is an American former professional football player who played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Raiders. He was born on February 15, 1957 in High Point, North Carolina. Brown attended High Point Central High School, where he was an All-State selection in football and basketball. He then attended North Carolina State University, where he was a three-year starter at running back. He was a two-time All-ACC selection and was named the ACC Player of the Year in 1978. Brown was selected in the first round of the 1979 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. He played for the Seahawks for four seasons, rushing for 1,979 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was traded to the Los Angeles Raiders in 1983 and played for them for two seasons, rushing for 1,068 yards and four touchdowns. Brown retired from the NFL in 1985. In December 1981, Brown accidentally shot himself while handling a loaded revolver. The injury required surgery to remove bullet and wood fragments from his upper thigh. There was a question of whether he would be able continue his career in football.
The Minnesota Vikings chose Brown in the first round (sixteenth pick overall) of the 1979 NFL Draft, and he played for the Vikings from 1979 to 1986.
By the time, Brown graduated from North Carolina State University in 1978, he had set the Atlantic Coast Conference career rushing record with 4,602 yards and the single game rushing record with 251 yards against Penn State in 1977. He was an All-ACC pick for all four years in college and a consensus All-American in 1978.
