Roscoe Ates was an American actor and comedian who was active in the entertainment industry from the 1920s to the 1970s. He was best known for his roles in films such as The Three Stooges in Society, The Great Race, and The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. Ates was born in Grange, Mississippi, on January 20, 1895. He began his career as a vaudeville performer in the 1920s, and eventually moved to Hollywood in the 1930s. He appeared in numerous films and television shows throughout his career, including The Three Stooges in Society, The Great Race, and The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. Ates was married twice, first to actress Lillian Elliott in 1927, and then to actress Mary Jane Croft in 1945. He had two children with Elliott, and one with Croft. Ates died on January 29, 1962, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 67. He was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.
