Plácido Domingo is a Spanish opera singer, conductor, and arts administrator. He has performed in a wide variety of roles in opera, including as a baritone, tenor, and bass-baritone. He has also performed in zarzuela, the traditional Spanish lyric-dramatic genre. He has sung in a variety of languages, including Spanish, Italian, German, French, English, and Russian. Domingo has won numerous awards, including the Grammy Award for Best Classical Album in 1998, the Latin Grammy Award for Best Classical Album in 2000, and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009. He has also been awarded the Order of Isabella the Catholic, the highest honor bestowed by the Spanish government. Domingo has been the General Director of the Los Angeles Opera since 2003. He is also the President of the International Association of Opera Directors and the President of the International Music Council. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Vienna State Opera and the Royal Opera House in London.
