Marty Lyons is a former American football defensive tackle who played for the New York Jets from 1979 to 1989. He was born on September 4, 1956 in Birmingham, Alabama. Marty Lyons attended the University of Alabama, where he was a two-time All-American and a member of the 1979 National Championship team. He was drafted by the Jets in the first round of the 1979 NFL Draft. During his 11-year career with the Jets, Lyons was selected to the Pro Bowl three times and was named All-Pro twice. He was also a member of the Jets' Sack Exchange, a defensive line that included Mark Gastineau, Joe Klecko, and Abdul Salaam. Marty Lyons retired from the NFL in 1989 and was inducted into the Jets' Ring of Honor in 2011. He is currently a radio analyst for the Jets and a motivational speaker.
