Price began his career as a session musician, playing on records for artists such as The Temptations, The Four Tops, and The Jackson 5. He eventually joined The Temptations as a full-time member in 1975, and remained with the group until 1983. During his time with the group, he co-wrote and produced several of their hits, including "Shakey Ground" and "Power". Price has also released several solo albums, including his debut, Louis Price (1980), and his most recent, Soulful (2015). He has also written and produced songs for other artists, including The O'Jays, The Spinners, and The Isley Brothers. Price is currently 70 years old. He has an estimated net worth of $2 million.

He has appeared in the film White Men Can't Jump as fictional playground legend Eddie "The King" Faroo and as the principal on the TV series My Wife & Kids. In 1998, he was heard providing the singing voices for Dennis Edwards in the Temptations miniseries. He also provided singing vocals for Cornwallis for the "Circle of Poo" song in the South Park episode "A Very Crappy Christmas", incorrectly credited as "Lewis Price".
He then joined The Drifters and remained with them through the first half of the 1980s, while also doing occasional studio singing with groups like Heatwave on their album, "Current." In the late 1980s, Price signed with Motown and recorded his self-titled debut album, Louis Price, which was released in 1991.
