Kenneth Anger is an American underground experimental filmmaker, actor and author. He is best known for his short films, which blend surrealism, homoeroticism, and occultism. His films have been described as "the most influential body of work in American avant-garde cinema". Anger was born in Santa Monica, California, to Wilbur Anglemyer and Lillian Coler. He began making films at age nine, and had an early interest in Hollywood and film stars. He was a child actor in films such as A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935) and The Devil Is a Sissy (1936). Anger attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied psychology and philosophy. He later attended the San Francisco Art Institute, where he studied film. Anger's first film, Fireworks (1947), was a homoerotic exploration of his own psyche. It was followed by a series of short films, including Eaux d'Artifice (1953), Scorpio Rising (1964), and Invocation of My Demon Brother (1969). Anger has also written several books, including Hollywood Babylon (1959) and Hollywood Babylon II (1984). He has also written and directed several feature films, including Lucifer Rising (1972) and The Man We Want to Hang (2002). Anger has been honored with numerous awards, including the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award (2003) and the San Francisco International Film Festival's Lifetime Achievement Award (2005).

Timeline
In 1967 Anger published his own eulogy in "The Village Voice" because he was upset that the negative of his latest film, "lucifer Rising," which he was carrying on the back of his motorcycle, had been stolen and destroyed by members of the Hell's Angels.
According to some sources (including Jean-Luc Godard in "Cahiers du Cinéma"), Anger edited a version of Sergei M. Eisenstein's unfinished ¡Que viva Mexico! (1932) during his time in France in the early 1950s. There are no known extant copies of the project and it is not certain it ever actually existed.
