Juan Diego Flórez is a Peruvian operatic tenor. He is known for his roles in the bel canto operas of Rossini, Donizetti, and Bellini, and is widely considered one of the most exciting and successful singers of his generation. Flórez began his musical studies at the National Conservatory of Music in Lima, Peru, and later studied at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. He made his professional debut in 1996 at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Italy, and has since performed in many of the world's leading opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, the Royal Opera House, and the Vienna State Opera. Flórez has won numerous awards, including the prestigious ECHO Klassik Award, the Premio Abbiati, and the Premio della Critica Musicale Italiana. He has also been awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic and the Order of the Sun of Peru. In addition to his operatic career, Flórez has released several albums of popular music, including a collection of Peruvian folk songs. He is also a passionate advocate for music education and has established the Juan Diego Flórez Foundation, which provides music education to children in Peru.
