Joseph Morgan is a British actor and director best known for his role as Klaus Mikaelson in The Vampire Diaries and its spin-off The Originals. He has also appeared in films such as Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and Immortals. Morgan was born on 16 May 1981 in London, England. He attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and graduated in 2004. Morgan began his acting career in 2005, appearing in the British television series Hex. He then went on to appear in the films Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and Immortals. In 2009, he was cast as Klaus Mikaelson in The Vampire Diaries, a role he reprised in its spin-off The Originals. In addition to acting, Morgan has also directed several episodes of The Originals. Morgan met actress Persia White on the set of The Vampire Diaries. The couple got engaged in 2014 after dating since 2011. They married on 5 July 2014 in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. He became the stepfather of White's daughter.
Morgan played Niklaus Mikaelson in The CW's The Vampire Diaries, and played Lysander in the 2011 film Immortals, alongside Henry Cavill. BuddyTV ranked him number 84 on its list of "TV's Sexiest Men of 2011". In January 2013, a back-door pilot for The Originals, a spin-off series of The Vampire Diaries, began airing with Morgan starring as Niklaus Mikaelson.
