He was born on August 25, 1939 in Luton, United Kingdom. Badham attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where he studied film and television. He began his career as an assistant director on the television series The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (1964–1968). He then directed episodes of the series The Name of the Game (1968–1971) and The Six Million Dollar Man (1974–1978). In 1977, Badham directed the iconic film Saturday Night Fever, starring John Travolta. The film was a huge success, grossing over $237 million worldwide and earning two Academy Award nominations. In 1983, Badham directed the science fiction classic WarGames, starring Matthew Broderick. The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $79 million worldwide. In 1987, Badham directed the action-comedy Stakeout, starring Richard Dreyfuss and Emilio Estevez. The film was a box office success, grossing over $77 million worldwide.
