Joe Abeywickrama was a Sri Lankan actor and writer who was best known for his roles in films such as Gamperaliya, Delovak Athara, and Baddegama. He was born on 13 June 1933 in Lellopitiya, Ceylon. He began his career as a stage actor in the 1950s and made his film debut in the 1960s. He went on to appear in over 100 films in his career. He was also a prolific writer, having written several plays and screenplays. He won several awards for his work, including the Sarasaviya Best Actor Award in 1972 and the Presidential Award of Sri Lanka in 2003. He passed away on 28 April 2012 at the age of 78.
