Jim Bakker is an American televangelist, former Assemblies of God minister, and convicted felon. He is best known for his television show, The PTL Club, which he co-hosted with his then-wife, Tammy Faye Bakker. Bakker was born in Muskegon, Michigan, on January 2, 1939. He attended North Central University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and was ordained as a minister in the Assemblies of God in 1962. In 1974, Bakker and his wife founded the PTL (Praise the Lord) Club, a Christian television program. The show was broadcast on more than 200 television stations and was seen by an estimated 8 million viewers. In 1987, Bakker resigned from the PTL Club amid allegations of financial impropriety. He was later convicted of fraud and conspiracy and sentenced to 45 years in prison. He served five years before being released in 1994. Since his release, Bakker has continued to be active in the Christian ministry. He has written several books, including I Was Wrong and Time Has Come. He also hosts a daily television program, The Jim Bakker Show. Bakker is estimated to have a net worth of $1 million.
