Jerry Douglas is an American bluegrass musician, producer, and songwriter. He is best known for his work as a dobro player, and has been a member of the bands J.D. Crowe & The New South, Strength in Numbers, and The Earls of Leicester. He has also released several solo albums and collaborated with many other artists. Douglas was born on May 28, 1956 in Warren, Ohio. He began playing the dobro at the age of 8, and by the age of 12 he was playing professionally. He attended the University of Miami, where he studied jazz and classical music. In the early 1980s, Douglas joined J.D. Crowe & The New South, and in 1985 he released his first solo album, Fluxology. He has since released several more solo albums, as well as several collaborative albums with other artists. He has also produced albums for other artists, including Alison Krauss, Dolly Parton, and Earl Scruggs. In addition to his musical career, Douglas is also an inventor. He has designed and patented several musical instruments, including the Dobro Resonator Guitar and the Tricone Resonator Guitar.
