Charlie, a former Michigan State football player, eventually (as head football coach at Los Gatos High School in California) gained fame when he continued to coach for many years, after being confined to a wheelchair from contracting Lou Gehrig's Disease. He is the subject of Quiet Victory: The Charlie Wedemeyer Story (1988).
