He was best known for his work on the classic films The Wizard of Oz (1939) and Gone with the Wind (1939). Bau began his career in the early 1930s, working as a make-up artist for Universal Pictures. He then moved to MGM, where he worked on some of the studio's most iconic films, including The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind. He also worked on films such as The Thin Man (1934), The Philadelphia Story (1940), and The Band Wagon (1953). Bau was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Makeup for his work on The Wizard of Oz. He was also nominated for an Emmy Award for his work on the television series The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (1964-1968). Bau retired in the late 1980s and passed away in 1997 at the age of 90. At the time of his death, Gordon Bau's net worth was estimated to be around $2 million. He earned most of his wealth from his career as a make-up artist in the film industry.
