David Thornton is an American actor best known for his roles in the films The Devil's Advocate (1997), The Insider (1999), and The Manchurian Candidate (2004). He has also appeared in television series such as Law & Order, The Practice, and The West Wing. Thornton was born in Cheraw, South Carolina, and raised in nearby Florence. He attended the University of South Carolina, where he studied theater and graduated with a degree in fine arts. Thornton began his acting career in the early 1980s, appearing in small roles in films such as The Right Stuff (1983) and The Natural (1984). He made his Broadway debut in the 1985 production of The Real Thing. In 1997, Thornton starred in the legal thriller The Devil's Advocate, opposite Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves. He went on to appear in the films The Insider (1999), The Manchurian Candidate (2004), and The Lincoln Lawyer (2011). Thornton has also had a successful television career, appearing in series such as Law & Order, The Practice, and The West Wing. He has also had recurring roles in the series The Black Donnellys (2007) and The Good Wife (2009-2011). Thornton is married to actress Cyia Batten, with whom he has two children.
