David Anspaugh is an American television director and producer. He is best known for directing the films Hoosiers (1986) and Rudy (1993). He was born on September 24, 1946 in Decatur, Indiana. Anspaugh attended Indiana University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969. He then attended the University of Southern California's School of Cinema-Television, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1971. Anspaugh began his career directing television movies and miniseries, including The Jericho Mile (1979), The Day After (1983), and The Deliberate Stranger (1986). He made his feature film debut with Hoosiers (1986), which was a critical and commercial success. He followed this with the sports drama Rudy (1993), which was another success. Anspaugh has since directed the films Moonlight and Valentino (1995), The Game of Their Lives (2005), and Firehouse Dog (2007). Born in Decatur, Indiana in 1946 to Lawrence Anspaugh, a portrait photographer, and his wife, Marie, he was a member of his high school's football, basketball, and track teams. As a student majoring in secondary education at Indiana University, Anspaugh shot his own short movies and filmed concerts, football games, and Vietnam War protests using a 16mm camera. After graduation he moved to Aspen, Colorado, where he worked as a substitute teacher, waiter, and ski instructor before relocating to Los Angeles to attend film school at the University of Southern California. At the time he couldn't imagine ever working in Hollywood, although that would change in just a few years.
