He is best known for his roles in films such as Desperado, Heat, Con Air, Machete, and Spy Kids. He has also appeared in television shows such as Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy. Trejo was born in Echo Park, Los Angeles, California, to Mexican-American parents. He began his career as a boxer and later worked as a drug counselor. He was discovered by actor/director Robert Rodriguez while working as a drug counselor and was cast in his 1995 film Desperado. Trejo has since appeared in over 200 films and television shows. He has also produced several films, including Machete and Machete Kills. Trejo is 77 years old and has a net worth of $8 million. He is married to Debbie Shreve and has four children.

While serving time in San Quentin, he won the lightweight and welterweight boxing titles. Imprisoned for armed robbery and drug offenses, he successfully completed a 12-step rehabilitation program that changed his life. While speaking at a Cocaine Anonymous meeting in 1985, Trejo met a young man who later called him for support.
Was released from Soledad CTF (Correctional Training Facility) in August 1969.
Trejo spent much of the 1960s in California prisons--Tracy (1963-1965), San Quentin (1965-1968), Soledad (1968-1969).
