Anusha Rizvi is an Indian film director and screenwriter. She is best known for her debut feature film Peepli Live (2010), which was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. Rizvi was born on 13 March 1978 in Delhi, India. She studied at the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, and then went on to pursue a Masters in Film and Television from the University of Westminster in London. Rizvi began her career as a documentary filmmaker, making films for the BBC, Channel 4, and the Discovery Channel. Her first feature film, Peepli Live, was released in 2010 and was a critical and commercial success. The film was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. Rizvi has since directed several short films and documentaries, including the award-winning short film, The Kite (2013). She is currently working on her second feature film, which is set to be released in 2021. Rizvi is married to film producer Aamir Khan and they have two children. Anusha Rizvi is an Indian film director and screenwriter. Formerly a journalist, Anusha's directorial debut, Peepli Live, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2010 in the World Competition Section. It was the first Indian film to be accepted in the 25 years of the festival’s existence. The film also won the Best First Film Award at the Durban film festival and the Gollapudi Srinivas Award.
The film was later nominated as India's official entry to the 83rd Academy awards. She also directed a National Geographic documentary Hijack IC-814 and two BBC documentaries Amul and Khadi. Anusha is currently developing a series for leading Indian platform, Hotstar.
