In 1969, Wilson wrote the song, "Going Up the Country", which went to #11 on the charts for nine weeks and became the unofficial theme song of the Woodstock Music Festival, and at which Canned Heat played. A sensitive environmentalist, he suffered through years of depression.
Wilson wrote "On the Road Again" in 1967 which became a top 20 hit.
Alan Wilson grew up in Arlington, Massachusetts, where he attended Arlington High School and where his love for blues grew, along with his blues record collection. He went out to Los Angeles to attend school, where he met Bob Hite, who shared a similar love for blues music. They formed the band, Canned Heat, in 1966. A year later, they were playing the Monterey International Pop Festival.
